The 0 euro note is a souvenir note that has the same appearance as a real euro note, but has no monetary value. It was developed by French entrepreneur Richard Faille and was first presented in 2015. The zero euro notes are - with the approval of the European Central Bank (ECB) - printed by the world's third largest banknote manufacturer, the renowned French securities printing company Oberthur Technologies - with the security features typical of banknotes.
What is special about these notes is, in addition to their visual similarity to conventional banknotes, security features such as watermark, security strip, hologram, micro-writing, fluorescent color and other details that underline the high standard and quality of the production of these souvenir notes.
The 0 euro notes are printed with various motifs, often representing local landmarks, historical events, famous personalities or cultural symbols. Each motif is printed in a strictly limited edition and in addition each note has an individual serial number. There are now hundreds of different motifs from most European countries as well as international motifs from all continents
